Walking into The Spa at MECCA in Fairfield is like entering a luxurious, warm and inviting oasis. Whether coming in for Botox®, fillers, a facial or any of the other myriad of services, you can trust that you’re being treated by an experienced and caring team of experts.
Founder, Dr. Dena Lacara, and her team focus on making connections and building long-term relationships with patients. “We've been here since 2009, and still have our original employees,” she says. “Our injectors have over 50 years of combined experience.” Until recently, the spa had only physician injectors, but has added a wonderful nurse practitioner to the team. “I am blessed beyond measure to have an amazing team behind me.”
A family medicine physician, Dr. Lacara didn’t plan on opening a spa, but “my patients forced me into it,” she says laughing. “It was my patients’ insistence that led me to begin training in aesthetics in 2007 and, as a perpetual student, I never stopped.”
In addition to her medical specialty, Dr. Lacara has extensive training in aesthetic medicine including lasers, Botox, fillers and cosmetic dermatology. A testament to her level of skill and training, Dr. Lacara was recently appointed national faculty for the Allergan Medical Institute and now has the privilege of training others in the field of aesthetics.

The Spa at MECCA is part of a multidisciplinary medical practice, MECCA Integrated Medical Center, which is overseen by Dr. Lacara and her husband, Dr. Michael Sapienza. In 2020, due to high demand, they expanded their space. The entire practice is now 9,600 square feet with 2,600 dedicated to the spa.
The most requested services, she says, are Botox and fillers, with facials and chemical peels close behind. “Botox can literally take years off. Simply put, it smooths lines and wrinkles due to repetitive expression giving the client a refreshed look. Results are impactful and delivered in a quick and easy, no downtime procedure.” Fillers have also been a real game changer. “With filler we can restore youthful facial contours. By placing filler strategically throughout the face, we can balance facial features by improving chin projection, sharpening the jawline, and restoring midface volume, for example.”

The spa's mission is to reveal each patient's inner beauty. “A lot of patients tell us they don’t feel their age but are distressed by the changes they see when looking in the mirror. It’s about giving patients’ their self-confidence back. It’s amazing how small tweaks can results in subtle, natural enhancements that leave patients feeling refreshed and looking rejuvenated.”
The real joy of this business, she says, is the fact that at MECCA they are there for people in every capacity whether it’s beautification, pain relief, weight reduction or improved mobility.
“We really are a multi-disciplinary practice, and our collective goal is to help patients look, feel, and function at their best,” says Dr. Lacara. “At the end of the day, I love helping people grow and evolve which is why despite the evolution of MECCA and the growth of the spa, I continue to practice medicine full time as a solo practitioner. I continue to ‘do it all’ because I find it so rewarding.”
