A local, family-owned bakery grown out of a love of good food and quality service. They bring a little bit of European café culture where boulangeries dot the neighborhoods, to the suburbs of New Jersey.
Pulling inspiration from the bread and pastry cultures of Europe and Israel, Liv Breads opened in 2018 and specializes in all-natural sourdough breads; sweet and savory pastries; and creative quiche, salads and sandwiches crafted to highlight their breads. The owners’ vision was to bring a boulangerie-style artisan bakery to the suburbs and were thrilled when the community embraced the business as a local hotspot, as well as county-wide destination. The flagship location which houses production, and a café is based Millburn, NJ and Liv Breads has since expanded with two additional retail locations in Short Hills NJ and Englewood, NJ, and offers nationwide shipping through Goldbelly.
Liv Breads offers an extensive bread and pastry program and a seasonal-focused menu of quiche, sandwiches, and salads. All-natural sourdough breads without any additives, made with a 15-year sourdough starter are given a slow, cold-rise overnight and include Country loaf, Nordic (Scandinavian-style bread), Caraway-Rye, and Baguette. Yeasted breads include Ciabatta, topped Focaccia, Challah, and brioche and hamburger buns. Pastries made with laminated dough include the customer-favorite chocolate-graham babka, a variety of croissants, sweet- and savory-filled Danish, rugelach, bourekas (puff pastry filled with spinach and cheese) and cinnamon rolls. Their laminated pastry are rounded out with a large rotating menu of cakes and cookies.
Liv Breads offers gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan items, and made a conscious decision to be meat-free (fish is used as an ingredient). Liv Breads partners with Counter Culture Coffee and In Pursuit of Tea to offer a high-end, quality beverage program. Liv Breads prides itself of being environmentally and socially conscious by donating to the food insecure, composting kitchen scraps, and sourcing reusable and recyclable packaging. Liv Breads is certified Kosher under Conservative supervision.
The flagship bakery and all production is based in Millburn, NJ [184 Essex St. and 257 Essex St.], with additional retail locations in The Mall at Short Hills [1200 Morris Turnpike] and its newest location in Englewood, NJ [23 Nathaniel Place].
